CARDIOVASCULAR DIAGNOSTIC LABRATORY
The cardiovascular stress and ultrasound lab was established in 1998. Its diagnostic capabilities span a wide range of heart and vascular problems.

Stress echocardiography has grown to be a highly sensitive study in the diagnosis of heart disease. The "echo" or ultrasound of the heart allows us to evaluate many aspects of cardiac function and vascular changes making our decisions on treatment very scientific and more exact.

Along with this advanced diagnostic approach, we are also equipped to perform a multitude of vascular ultrasounds including: carotid, abdominal aorta, renal and peripheral extremities to diagnose such disease as carotid stenosis, aortic aneurysms, blood clots and perfusion defects. We now also have a newer diagnostic study known as transcranial doppler ultrasound to assess intracerebral blood flow evaluating such problems as aneurysms, vascular spasms, and stenosis.

We are proud to offer these very important diagnostic studies to our patients.

Our well trained technicians focus on patient care, comfort, and extend their welcome in good health to all of our patients present and future!

Included in our work-up of potential cardip-pulmonary problems includes assessments through:

  • 24 Hour Holter Monitoring
  • Cardiac Event Monitoring
  • 24 Hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring
  • Overnight Pulse Oximetry
These tests are simple for the patient and just another way that we can better assess their problems while in a home environment.

PULMONARY LAB
Our pulmonary function lab is a state-of-the-art facility allowing us to diagnose and monitor a wide range of lung diseases including common diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Our Certified Respiratory Therapist has over twenty years of experience in respiratory medicine with a fond interest in patient education.

We are continuing to develop educational programs in pulmonary disease including asthma education, smoking cessation protocols, and long term care in chronic lung diseases. We focus on the diagnosis and early treatment of these diseases to avoid the debilitating consequences that are otherwise inevitable. In addition, we also provide Methacholine challenge, which is a provocative study for the diagnosis of asthmatic lung disease.

Please do not hesitate to call our staff with any questions regarding our pulmonary lab. We look forward to caring for you and your family!

SYNVISC (HYLAN G-F 20) THERAPY
For patients suffering chronic osteoarthritic knee pain, Jackson Clinic offers Synvic (Hylan G-F 20) as an alternative source of treatment.

Synvisc (Hylan G-F 20) is an FDA approved treatment for osteoarthritis of the knee. It provides lubrication of the knee joint by acting as a "shock absorber", and is administered by injection. The injections are administered directly into the joint space three times, seven days apart, over a fifteen day period.

Likely candidates for Synvisc (Hylan G-F 20) therapy are people who:

  • Are not receiving adequate pain relief from current treatment.
  • Cannot take aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen.
  • Are already taking multiple oral medications.
  • Are not appropriate candidates for knee surgery.
If you fit these criteria and /or have questions regarding Synvisc (Hylan G-F), please contact the helpful professionals at the Jackson Clinic at 903-739-2888 today!

BONE DENSITOMETRY
Bone densitometry or DEXA scan, as it is sometimes called, is the gold standard for the diagnosis of osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is a very common and potentially debilitating disease very often causing hip fractures and spinal compression fractures. It most commonly effects women beginning in their fourth to fifth decades of life, but it can affect both genders and at various ages.

There are many potential causes of osteoporosis, but the most common is calcium deficiency in the postmenopausal state.

The test is a very simple one taking only a few minutes to complete, and with our hip and spine views, is very sensitive for the diagnosis of osteoporosis.

You are invited to call 903-739-2888 for an appointment to have a DEXA scan performed and determine what many be the best preventative or treatment options for you!

IN HOUSE LABARATORY SERVICES
At Jackson Clinic, we provide several diagnostic laboratory tests while you wait. This allows your provider to discuss your test results with you at your appointment, and make any recommendations for medication changes at that time. The lab services that are offered are:

  • PT / INR
  • Fasting Lipid Panels for Cholesterol Screening
  • ALT (liver Screening)
  • AST Liver Screening)
  • Hemoglobin A1c for Diabetes Screening
  • Pulse Oximetry
  • 12- Lead EKG
  • Urine Pregnancy Testing
  • H-Pylori
  • Strep Screens
  • Urinalysis (with Micro-Albumin)
  • Occult Blood Screening
  • Accu- Check
  • Aspirin Monitoring
  • BNAP Monitoring (Brain Naturatic Peptide)

NERVE CONDUCTION VELOCITY TESTING
The Jackson Clinic is proud to now offer an additional diagnostic study. This is in the realm of electrodiagnostics or nerve conduction velocity studies as an assessment of peripheral nerve disorders. These nerve disorders include such things as assessment of nerve root involvement, severity of nerve injury on such diseases as sciatica, lumbar spinal stenosis, lumbosacral radiculopathies, carpal tunnel syndrome, upper extremity pain and numbness from cervical impingement syndrome and diabetic peripheral neuropathies as well.

This gives Dr. Jackson the ability to assess and differentiate certain neurologic problems and helps guide therapy in the right direction.

Upon implementing the electrodiagnostic lab on August 17th, 2006, about 15 patients have been assessed, diagnosed, and successful treatment plans have been implemented.

If you have any questions whatsoever in regards to this or signs or symptoms of a neurologic process that you need to discuss with Dr. Jackson, please do not hesitate to give us a call and set up a consult.

There are several cases of excessive sleepiness and of course it is important for us as the clinician to differentiate between the causes of daytime sleepiness. The most common influence on the degree of alertness is how good of a night's sleep you had the previous night. Sleep is, in part, controlled by a homeostatic mechanism. As such sleepiness accumulates during wakefulness and dissipates during sleep. If your sleep is inefficient in duration or if it is fragmented (i.e., your up and down all night long), the homeostatic mechanism does not fully discharge during the sleep period so the person wakes up as though they never went to bed in the first place and as a consequence are impaired throughout the following day.

While sleep loss is the most common cause of sleepiness in normal populations, sleep fragmentation is presented in virtually every population. There are several sleeping disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea which is extremely common and very under-diagnosed. Medical disorders such as Parkinson's disease, psychiatric disorders such as depression, shift work insomnia are all associated with sleep fragmentation and sleepiness.

A biphasic pattern of sleepiness and associated sleep propensity is observed in everyone. You may not notice that sleepiness is maximal from 2 AM to 6 AM unless you are a true insomniac, but all of us can certainly attest to the fact that between 2 PM and 4 PM is a very common lull. This is what we call a circadian pattern and can be the primary cause of excessive sleepiness. The circadian pattern can be completely disrupted by those of us who have non-traditional work hours such as those on second and third shifts or swing shift workers.
